Using Putty

Steps to use Putty:

1) Login to Windows machine.
2) Select Start-> PuTTy
3) Then in the PuTTy configuration window that appears, enter the IP address in the field 'Hostname' and the appropriate port in the field 'Port'. The connection type will be chosen as 'SSH' by default.
4) Click on 'Open'.
5) Then the PuTTy window appears and it prompts for username and password. On entering these details, you will be able to login successfully.

Initially, we were not able to paste the password when it prompted to enter the password. On checking, we could see that the selection settings for the PuTTy window was not set properly. Also, each time the PuTTy application is closed, the settings get reverted. You can change the settings for that particular session by following the steps given below.

6) Right click on the PuTTy title bar and select the option 'Change Settings'.
7) Subsequently, PuTTY Reconfiguration window appears. Select the option 'Selection' in the left 'Category' panel under the 'Window' title.
8) Correspondingly, the options controlling copy and paste appear on the right panel. Select the first option 'Windows(Middle extends, Right brings up menu)' and click on the 'Apply' button.
9) Now you will be able to paste the password for the username at the password by right clicking on the PuTTy window.
